What a huge, disappointing difference between Chinese and US leaders' speeches at UN!
Yesterday, both Chinese Premier Li Qiang and U.S. President Donald Trump delivered speeches at UN conferences. Their attitudes toward climate change and the green economy are so different. That worried me because obviously, the U.S. under the Trump administration will not work together with China and many other countries on the climate issue.
Trump said at the UN General Assembly that
“All of these predictions (climate change) made by the United Nations and many others, often for bad reasons, were wrong. They were made by stupid people that of course their countries’ fortunes and given those same countries, no chance for success. If you don’t get away from this green scam, your country is going to fail.”
He seemed proud of the U.S. as the world’s largest exporter of fossil energy. And ask people in the White House “never use the word coal, only use the words clean, beautiful coal.” Can coal be clean and beautiful only by speaking like this?
I don’t know how many people would agree with him, and how many are in America. Hope it won’t be much.
Li Qiang’s speech was just in line with China’s policy and practices. In his speech at a high-level meeting on the GDI held by China at the UN headquarters, he called for promoting more sustainable, green and low-carbon development, enhancing global coordination in new energy and other industries, and working together to achieve more sustainable development featuring harmonious coexistence between humanity and nature.
It is sad that the United States will not join the world. But I believe the efforts of China and many other countries will continue!

I was not disappointed because I fully expected Trump's speech to be that of a raving lunatic....and it was.
