China’s Second Integration and Organic Marxism
Hi, everyone,
It’s has been a while that I did not write to you. How are you?
I am excited today as the New China Research, the think tank of Xinhua News Agency launched a report on the Communist Party of China (CPC) concept of integrating the basic tenets of Marxism with fine traditional Chinese culture, known as the "Second Integration."
Exactly ten years ago, Philip Clayton and Justin Heinzekehr were working on their book Organic Marxism: An Alternative to Capitalism and Ecological Catastrophe. The book was published in 2014. In Chapter 5 From German Marxism to Culturally Embedded Marxism, the authors argued, “Marx’s original version -- to create a more just and equitable society -- actually requires cultural resources and a constructive retrieval of the past.”
I can’t agree more, with the authors thinks and China’s practices.
The Second Integration was promoted by Xi Jinping and was formally phrased last year.
The First Integration refers to Mao Zedong’s theory in 1940s that Marxism should be integrated with China’s specific realities. The first integration is widely seen as the key factor that leads to the success of Chinese Communist Party in founding the New China and to the path of socialism with Chinese characteristics.
I put the link here of related report below for your reference.

You can also google the title as "The 'Second Integration' that Transforms China -- Theoretical Innovation and Practice in Building the Modern Civilization of the Chinese Nation." It seems a bit long :)
The "Second Integration" serves as a key to unlocking the understanding of China in the new era, providing insight into Chinese modernization and a new model for human advancement and offering a valuable perspective for observing the relationship between China and the world, it says.
Thanks to Philip Clayton and Justin Heinzekehr for your book’s inspiration to me!
All my bests,
Cherie
