I was attracted and a bit shocked by the title of the following report, which can be translated as “China will build a wireless network on the moon.”
Because of my academic interest in connectivity, the report opened my eyes widely.
Is that real? Will China build a wireless communication facility on the Moon? So I read the report carefully.
It said that the China National Space Administration announced on September 24 that after the completion of the Chang'e 6 mission, China's lunar exploration project will also launch two missions to lay the foundation for the international lunar research station. According to the plan, China will launch Chang'e 7 in 2026 and Chang'e 8 around 2028. Chang'e 7 is to survey the environment and resources of the lunar south pole, and Chang'e 8 is to verify the in-situ utilization technology of lunar resources.
The construction of the International Lunar Research Station will be divided into two phases:
The first stage is the basic construction, which will be centered on the lunar south pole region and have the ability to conduct scientific research operations within a range of 100 kilometers. Through the Earth-Moon integrated information network, the interconnection and interoperability of multi-missions such as unmanned lunar exploration, manned lunar landing, and international cooperation will be realized, and a moon-based comprehensive scientific research platform with basically complete functions and elements will be formed.
I think in the first stage, the Earth-Moon integrated information network probably will be the key to wireless communication on the Moon surface.
The second stage is the expansion-type construction. By 2050, a lunar comprehensive station network with the lunar orbital station as the hub, the lunar south pole station as the center, and the lunar equator and the far side of the moon as exploration nodes will be built, forming a large-scale comprehensive scientific research platform with long-term unmanned, short-term manned, complete functions and continuous and stable operation.
The report quoted Guan Feng, director of the Lunar Exploration and Aerospace Engineering Center of the National Space Administration, as saying that Chang'e 8 must consider the ability to communicate, and there will definitely be a wireless network on the moon.
This report enlarges my study scope. Connectivity of our world will be further expanding to the Space. ###
This will most likely be a mix of the Queqiao lunar communications and positioning network, the Qianfan or Guowang low Earth orbit communications constellation, and possibly the BeiDou network.
